Why are handmade products so expensive?

Handmade products are expensive because there’s actually more to the costing than just materials and shipping. Because handmade products are not made by machines, making such products would take a lot more time and effort. The raw material, Reed grass grows in the wet marshlands of Manipur and it is dried for a year before it is handwoven into bags and baskets. It takes about 3 days to weave a bag.

Weaving different designs requires talent and practice. This tradition of handwoven bags is more than 100 years old

Most handmade products are made by individual artisans or small enterprises. Supporting handmade products means the money you paid goes directly to the makers and their families. It’s a way to directly support women artists and thriving businesses.

The next time you ever find yourself asking if buying a handmade product is worth its cost, remember the time and effort that the artisan poured into making the product. And if you ever decide on buying so, we’re sure it’s enough to brighten a craftsman’s day somewhere.

What if I received a damaged product?

All our products are 100% handmade and are produced individually, thus no two pieces are produced exactly the same. There might be slight variations in color, size and materials used on each bag, these are not product flaws. These are minor distinctions which make each item unique as a result of having 100% handmade products.

While we aim to ensure that we provide you with the highest quality of products, sometimes, there are instances beyond our control that result in your products being damaged in transit. If this happens, we would be glad to assist you to either replace or refund you.

Please email us at info@siroidesigns.com the proof of damage or defect. A clear photo or short video will be a great help. Once we receive the proof, we will be filing a claim on your behalf.

What if my bag gets mold and mildew?

While we know that any bag would get mold and mildew if kept in a damp area for a long time, we should make sure we keep our bags dry and avoid wet and damp areas.

Keep checking on the bag from time to time if you are not using it for a long time. If it gets mold and mildew ,you do not  have to throw it away, wipe  the reed bag with a wet cloth or sponge dipped in water or vinegar. Dry it completely in the sun. The best part about reed bags is that they can be cleaned with water and dried.

What if my reed bags get wet or dirty?

Reed grass is quite durable and lasts a long time. Make sure you do not wet the bag or if it gets wet in the rain immediately  dry it in the sun and it will be good as new. If it gets soiled or dirty,  just wipe it with a wet cloth and dry it completely
